Description
In many rare event searches noble gases are deployed as detector target. In order to achieve higher sensitivities, purification systems ensure a low number of impurities by continuous circulating. To pump and compress xenon gas through such systems an ultra-clean, hermetically sealed, radon-free pump without oil lubrication is indispensable. Considering that the detectors of low background experiments are getting increasingly larger, the correspondingly higher fluxes may require connecting multiple pumps in parallel. For such purposes and especially for a radon removal system for XENONnT, a four cylinder magnetically-coupled pump was developed that ensure the requirement of high cleanliness and stable operation.
This poster will show the basic idea of the piston pump and give an overview of the high-performance measurements.
